Applications for intellectual property rights up 11% in 2023

The Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IPO) at the Ministry of Science and Technology received over 156,000 applications seeking various intellectual property right (IPR) protections in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 11 per cent.

Of this, there were more than 84,700 applications for industrial property rights, up 8.5 per cent year-on-year.

There was a 10.6 per cent increase in patent application registrations, and an 11.8 per cent increase in industrial design registration applications.

The IPO plans to review and amend related regulations on appraising applications for industrial property rights and effectively implement the amended Law on Intellectual Property this year.

It will also enhance support for organizations and enterprises in IPR protection abroad, creating conditions for Vietnamese individuals and organizations overseas to register for industrial property rights.
