Higher domestic prices for gasoline, rice, and housing increased Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) in August by 0.88 per cent month-on-month, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has reported.

The CPI rose 3.1 per cent year-on-year in the first eight months and core inflation 4.57 per cent.

Compared to July, ten groups of goods and services posted higher prices while one group posted a decline of 0.17 per cent.

Transportation reported the highest price rise, of 3.85 per cent, adding 0.37 percentage points to overall CPI. Behind the rise were higher gasoline and diesel prices, which increased 9.85 per cent and 15.9 per cent, respectively, due to domestic price adjustments on August 1, 11, and 21.
