Bac Giang exports 24,000 tons of lychees

Tuệ Mỹ -

Lychee prices keep surging due to supply shortage.

Northern Bac Giang province exported 24,000 tons of lychees to many markets as of June 14, according to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade.

Meanwhile, 43,000 tons of lychees were supplied to the domestic market.

Prices of lychees keep soaring in the domestic market, reaching VND90,000-120,000 ($3.5-4.7) per kg in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The figures represent a two-fold or even three-fold increase compared to the same season last year.

A representative from the provincial Department of Industry and Trade explained that the price hike was resulted from the supply shortage. Bac Giang suffers a fall of some 50% in its lychee productivity.

Bac Giang is now home to 29,700 ha of lychee, with estimated output of more than 100,000 tons in 2024. The province plans to export some 70,000 tons of the fruit this year.
