Base salary for public employees to rise from July 1

Phúc Minh -

Second salary hike since 2019 on horizon, after delays due to Covid-19.

The base salary for civil servants and employees in the public sector, including members of the armed forces, will increase from VND1.49 million ($63.5) to VND1.8 million ($76) a month from July 1.

The government issued Decree No. 24/2023/ND-CP on May 14, stipulating the base salary for nine groups of subjects from July 1. The new salary levels will be applied to civil servants and employees from the public sector, including the armed forces. Monthly pensions for retired persons and social welfare payments will also increase by at least 12.5 per cent.

The basic wage forms the basis for calculating the salaries of employees in the State-run sector, by multiplying it with a corresponding coefficient.

This is the second base salary hike since July 1, 2019, after a three-year delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The salary adjustment is being made in line with Vietnam’s State budget capacity, the CPI, and economic growth.
