The Government News has quoted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as announcing that Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet will pay an official visit to Vietnam on December 11 and 12 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
This year marks the 56th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations, which have been driven by a mutual desire to further advance bilateral ties under a mantra of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term stability.”
Vietnam is now Cambodia’s third-largest trade partner and second-largest export market.
Two-way trade reached $4.77 billion in the first nine months of 2023, a year-on-year increase of 3 per cent, of which Cambodia’s exports rose 30.7 per cent to $2 billion while its imports stood at $2.736 billion, down 11 per cent, according to figures from the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Bilateral trade has grown strongly over the years, reaching more than $10.57 billion last year, up nearly 11 per cent compared to 2021.
Vietnam currently has 205 valid investment projects in Cambodia with total registered capital of $2.94 billion, ranking it first in ASEAN and in the top 5 foreign investors in the country. Cambodia is Vietnam’s second-largest overseas investment destination.
