The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has taken up the baton to host the Vietnam Tourism Year 2025.
The event will become a significant milestone for the central province in the context that it will become the centrally-run city of Hue under a resolution pass by the 15th National Assembly on November 30, 2024.
The Government News quoted Thua Thien-Hue Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh as saying that the National Tourism Year 2025 will feature nearly 160 national- and provincial-level events, spanning across four seasons.
The opening ceremony of the Tourism Year 2025 will take place on March 25, according to the official.
Hue tourism is once again mentioned by international tourists when at the end of 2023, Travel+Leisure magazine (USA) proposed the ancient capital of Vietnam as one of the must-visit destinations in Asia for tourists in 2024.
In 2023, Thua Thien Hue welcomed nearly 3.2 million visitors, notably with a significant increase in international tourists, reaching nearly 1.2 million, an increase of nearly 445 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year. The total tourism revenue is estimated to have reached over VND6,605 billion (nearly $260 million), an increase of over 145 per cent compared to the same period of 2022.
In the first quarter of 2024, the number of visitors to Hue accounted for 892,000, an increase of 41 per cent year-on-year. Among them, international visitors reached 447,000, a growth of 74.6 per cent over the same period of 2023.
The National Tourism Year is a pool of cultural, economic and social events hosted annually by different localities to promote tourism development and improve lives of local residents.
The northern province of Dien Bien is the current host of the National Tourism Year on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (7/5/1954 - 7/5/2024).
