The Chu Lai International Seaport Ltd. Co has proposed that authorities in central Quang Nam province expand and upgrade Chu Lai Port in Nui Thanh district, according to the province’s Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Zones.

The project will have estimated investment of nearly VND1.589 trillion ($64.8 million).

Chu Lai Port will be expanded to 1.72 ha and upgraded to allow the berthing of vessels of up to 50,000 DWT.

The project will be implemented in the 2024-2025 period.

Under Vietnam’s seaport development plan in 2021-2030 and vision to 2050, Chu Lai Port is one of 15 to be upgraded to Grade 1 or national and regional ports.

Located in the heart of the Central Key Economic Region, Chu Lai Port has convenient transport connectivity, as it is directly linked to National Highway No. 1A, coastal roads, the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway, and large industrial clusters such as Tam Thang Industrial Park in Quang Nam province and the VSIP Industrial Park and Dung Quat Economic Zone in neighboring Quang Ngai province.

It has an annual capacity of 3 million tons. With a wharf 500 meters long, it will be able to accommodate three vessels at the same time with a capacity of 30,000 tons each.

Chu Lai Port is developing both domestic and cross-border road transportation routes, including international routes from the Chu Lai Economic Zone to major ports in China, South Korea, Japan, and India.
