Construction of the first phase of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway kicked off in the Mekong Delta’s An Giang province on June 17.

The 188-km expressway runs between Soc Trang province’s Tran De Port, Hau Giang province, Can Tho city, and An Giang province’s Chau Doc city.

It is designed to be 32.25 meters wide and have six lanes.

Total investment is estimated at nearly VND44.7 trillion ($1.89 billion).

Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.

Addressing the breaking ground ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the expressway is the first horizontal link in the Mekong Delta and connects the region with the national expressway network. It is expected to be one of six expressways that change the Mekong Delta and link many economic centers, international border gates, and seaports.

The Prime Minister ordered that construction be done efficiently, safely, and without waste.
