Construction of Quang Tri airport in the central province of the same name kicked off on July 7 with investment capital estimated at more than VND5.8 trillion (nearly $227 million).
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long and representatives from central and local agencies attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
The airport project covers a total area of more than 265 ha in Gio Linh district.
Quang Tri Airport will be a Level 4C one, according to the classifications of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and can cater to Code E aircraft, serve 5 million passengers and handle 25,500 tons of cargo annually.
The airport is scheduled to be put into operation in July, 2026.
