Corporate bond issuance in 2024 surpassed $17.47 billion

Corporate bond issuance in 2024 increased by 32.7 per cent compared to the previous year.

There were 54 private placements of corporate bond worth VND56.793 trillion ($2.23 billion) and 1 public issuance worth VND800 billion ($31.52 million) in the last month of 2024, according to a recent report compiled by the Vietnam Bond Market Association based on the data of the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) and the State Security Commission of Vietnam (SSC)

Overall, the total annual value of corporate bond issuance in 2024 reached VND443.458 trillion ($17.476 billion), up 32.7 per cent compared to  2023. Of the figure, VND410.544 trillion ($16.17 billion) gained from the 429 private placements and VND 32.914 trillion ($1.29 billion) from 22 public issuances.

In terms of composition, corporate bond issuance in 2024 showed significant disparities across industries. The banking sector dominated with a share of 69 per cent, followed by the real estate sector with 20 per cent; while several other industries experienced declines.

In December, companies also bought back VND27.458 trillion ($1.08 billion) worth of bonds before their maturity date, 36 per cent lower the figure recorded in December 2023 . In 2025, VBMA estimates that corporate bonds worth VND216.67 trillion ($8.53 billion) will reach their maturity date, 55.6 per cent of which is in the real estate sector.

On the secondary market, the total value of private corporate bond transactions in December reached VND131.786 trillion ($5.19 billion), an average of VND 5.99 trillion ($236 million) per trading session, up 32 per cent compared to the average in November.
