Exports of Vietnamese crab to certain markets have continued increasing while others have declined, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).
In October alone, crab exports rose 25 per cent to nearly $25 million.
This brought total export revenue in the first ten months of the year to $161 million, down 14 per cent year-on-year.
The fall was blamed on the impact of inflation, which has resulted in lower consumption demand and fewer orders, VASEP said.
As of the end of October, Vietnamese crab was exported to 32 markets. Japan, the US, China, Hong Kong (China), France, and Canada are the key import markets, accounting for 96 per cent of the country’s total export revenue.
While exports to some markets have fallen, such as China, Hong Kong (China), and France, shipments to Japan, the US, and Canada rose 38 per cent year-on-year, the US 2 per cent, and Canada 22 per cent.
Japan is the only country, however, whose imports of Vietnamese crab have continued increasing since early this year.
