The Government has required the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to urgently complete the draft decree on mechanisms and policies encouraging the development of self-produced rooftop solar power for self-use for issuance before July 12.

Under the draft decree, the Government asked the MoIT to study to pilot a policy to allow individuals and organizations to sell back to the national grid the excessive amount of rooftop solar power but set a cap of below 10% of their total capacity.   

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is responsible for purchasing the excessive amount of rooftop solar power and ensuring the harmony of different power sources as well as safety operation of the power system.

The self-production of rooftop solar power for self-use is expected to help reduce State budget in investing in new power sources.
