Implementation of a project on developing the application of a population database, e-identification, and e-authentication for national digital transformation has made important contributions to socio-economic development and accelerated national digital transformation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has said.

Chairing a conference on December 21 to review the implementation of the project in the 2022-2025 period with a vision to 2030, Prime Minister Chinh said it has helped to rapidly and sustainably promote socio-economic development and facilitated the growth of the digital economy and digital society.

In particular, the implementation of online public services on the national population database has been boosted, bringing practical results. Over 11.2 million accounts were set up and over 35.4 million dossiers were submitted via the national public portal.

Thirty-eight out of 53 essential public services have been implemented, helping save over VND2.5 trillion ($104 million) annually.

Chip-based citizen identification cards have been granted to all eligible citizens.

Prime Minister Chinh asked ministers and leaders of agencies and localities to show stronger determination and take more drastic action to fulfill tasks set for 2024, including the cashless payment of social welfare and the completion of the national database on public servants, for inclusion in the national population database.

The Ministry of Justice was asked to propose solutions in January regarding 558 administrative procedures that have not been cut or simplified as yet.
