Total electricity generation and import in the first quarter of 2026 reached 76.86.6 billion kWh, increasing 6.6% compared to the same period last year, according to Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
In March alone, 28.6 billion kWh was generated and imported.
Of the three-month total, 40,58 billion kWh were generated from coal thermal power plants, accounting for 52.8%; 16.4 billion kWh from hydro power plants, or 20.9%; 11.8 billion kWh from renewable energy, or 15.4%, and 2.92 billion kWh from imports, or 3.8%.
During the period, construction of 46 power projects has started, while 39 others were put into operation.
In the second quarter, which marks the peak of the dry season, electricity demand is expected to rise sharply. Accordingly, the EVN is accelerating key power generation and grid projects, while rolling out energy-saving measures to meet growing demand.
