The 8.5-km elevated section of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line started commercial operation on August 8, the Tin tuc (News) online newspaper has reported.
The elevated segment, extending from Nhon area to Cau Giay district, consists of eight stations: Nhon, Minh Khai, Phu Dien, Cau Dien, Le Duc Tho, Vietnam National University, Ha Pagoda, and Cau Giay.
After being free for the first 15 days, a trip will cost VND8,000-12,000 ($0.3-0.5) for a ticket, depending on distance traveled.
Daily passes will be available for VND24,000 ($0.95), allowing unlimited rides within a day.
Monthly passes will cost VND200,000 ($7.90) and VND100,000 ($4) for students.
In the first three months, the line will be operational from 5.30am until 10pm every day, with trains arriving and departing every ten minutes.
The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station line runs 12.5 km from Nhon in Hanoi's Nam Tu Liem district via Kim Ma Street to Hanoi Railway Station in Dong Da district. Construction began in 2010 at an estimated cost of over VND34.8 trillion (nearly $1.37 billion).
The line passes through eight elevated and four underground stations.
This is the second metro line to be operational in the capital city following Cat Linh-Ha Dong line.
