Attracting foreign investment should not focus on capital alone; more importantly, it must raise technological content and added value, thereby enabling Vietnamese enterprises to integrate deeper into regional and global value chains, the Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV )quoted an official as saying at a recent meeting on foreign investment in Vietnam.

“Crucially, it must foster effective linkages and spillovers between foreign-invested and domestic economic sectors, while developing industrial clusters and ecosystems to realize national strategic orientations on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation," said Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan.

He was addressing the 2026 Foreign Investment Briefing Conference for the Southern Region, covering 15 provinces and centrally run cities from Hue City to Ca Mau Province, that was hosted by the Foreign Investment Agency in Da Lat, Lam Dong Province.

To capture FDI inflows in the remaining months of 2026 and throughout 2027, the Foreign Investment Agency and representatives from local authorities across southern provinces and cities  agreed on several key solutions: training a skilled workforce for high-tech ventures; preparing robust infrastructure and clean energy supplies for manufacturing; and exploring customized corporate-tailored training models based on specific demands from foreign enterprises.

Mr. Tuan stated that moving forward, the focus must shift from simply pursuing investment volume to enhancing quality, efficiency, and positive spillovers of foreign investment. This aligns with the guiding principles of Politburo Resolution No. 10 (dated June 8, 2026) on the development of foreign-invested economic sectors, alongside implementation measures in Government Resolution No. 280 (dated September 22, 2026).
