Enterprises must meet foreign market requirements to boost exports

With abundant raw materials, there is huge space for Vietnam to boost the export of farm produce and processed foodstuffs to foreign markets, a recent conference discussing measures to promote the export of processed foodstuffs to Asia-Pacific and Africa heard.

Agricultural and processed foodstuffs from Vietnam are now sold in over 180 countries and territories, contributing billions of dollars to the country’s annual export turnover.

However, analysts at the conference said Vietnam still mostly exports raw materials and many products are exported via unofficial channels. Vietnamese enterprises are also under pressure from fierce competition from countries in ASEAN as well as in Asia.

Leading import markets such as the US, the EU, and China have increased their requirements on sustainability of imports in terms of social, environmental, and economic aspects, requiring that Vietnam and its businesses adapt.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoa, Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Australia, advised businesses to regularly update regulations from Australia and consult importers, law offices, and the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia to avoid any problems with exports.

Participants also discussed difficulties and advantages and proposed initiatives to enhance trade promotions of processed foodstuffs to foreign markets.
