According to data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the total number of flights in Vietnam during August was 1,536, down 90.6 per cent year-on-year and 59.3 per cent month-on-month.
Vietnam Airlines conducted 1,025 flights, down 84.6 per cent year-on-year, Jetstar Pacific Airlines 19, down 98.6 per cent, VietJet Air 332, down 94.2 per cent, Vasco Airlines 12, down 98 per cent, and Bamboo Airways 148, down 92.7 per cent. Vietravel Airlines, which was launched at the beginning of the year, did not operate any flights. On-time performance was affected by the low number of flights.
Flights conducted recently have mostly focused on transporting doctors, medical staff, medical supplies, and medicines, including vaccines, ventilators, dialysis machines, test kits, and protective clothing from Hanoi to the south. On July 21, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) requested that CAAV cease flights between Can Tho and Hanoi, and Phu Quoc and Hanoi, while return flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have been limited to two per day.
According to experts from the SSI Securities Joint Stock Company, Vietnam’s aviation industry has great expectations from 2022 onwards, when the pandemic is brought under control and a high proportion of people have been vaccinated.
