France is the top trade partner and the fourth largest export market of Vietnam in EU, according to Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee Nguyen Van Hoan.
The two-way trade turnover reached $4.8 billion in 2023. Of which, Vietnam’s export revenue to France totaled $3.17 billion, he said at the Bastille Day held in HCM City on July 12 by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam.
Key export products of Vietnam to France are footwear, garments and textiles, seafood, machine, equipment and electronic components. Meanwhile, Vietnam mainly imports aviation equipment, industrial machines, pharmaceutical products and agricultural and food products.
Ho Chi Minh City is one of localities that have actively promoted cooperation with France. The trade revenue between the city and France last year reached nearly $750 million, according to Mr. Hoan.
France ranks 16th out of 143 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 674 projects. Their total registered capital is estimated at $3.81 billion.
Addressing the event, Ms. Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser, French consul general in HCM City, underlined robust economic ties between the two nations and stressed that France is now the second-largest European Union investor in Vietnam.
