Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with Mr. Gan Jiayue, CEO of Geely Auto Group (China), one of the largest private automobile manufacturers in China, in Hanoi on September 23.

During the meeting, Mr. Gan Jiayue presented an overview of Geely's project to build an automobile assembly plant, along with plans to invest in a supply chain for parts and establish a research and development (R&D) center in Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha acknowledged that the global automobile industry is highly competitive, requiring constant innovation to keep pace with modern trends, including reducing emissions and protecting the environment.

Given Geely Auto's reputation and capabilities in China and over 50 countries worldwide, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope that the group's investment project in Vietnam would achieve positive outcomes.

He expects the cooperation project to be quickly and comprehensively implemented, covering research, production, development, technology transfer, and human resource training. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of ensuring the welfare, education, and healthcare of the workforce.

The goal is to create a Vietnamese automobile product, not just a project solely invested in by a Chinese enterprise.

Vietnam also welcomes foreign businesses investing in high-tech sectors, innovation, supporting industries, and electronic components for automobile manufacturing, along with related technical infrastructure, the Deputy Prime Minister said, adding that these investments should involve Vietnamese companies to gradually establish a value and supply chain for the automobile industry in Vietnam, serving both the domestic and export markets.

Mr. Gan Jiayue thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for the meeting and shared key aspects of Geely's global activities, highlighting the company's acquisitions and collaborations with several renowned automobile brands, covering gasoline, electric, and hybrid vehicles.

He also mentioned that Geely Auto is focusing on developing environmentally friendly green products and manufacturing advanced cockpit chips.

Regarding the investment cooperation project in Vietnam, the Geely Auto leader proposed several recommendations to facilitate implementation, including matters related to environmental impact assessments, fire safety, construction regulations, as well as import-export tax incentives and credit policies.
