Global Finance recognizes SHB as Best Sustainable Finance Bank in Vietnam

Within the framework of the Sustainable Finance Awards 2026, Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) has been honored by the US-based magazine Global Finance as the Best Sustainable Finance Bank in Vietnam.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that SHB has received this prestigious accolade, affirming the bank’s persistent efforts in developing sustainable financial solutions and accompanying the national green growth objectives.

The Sustainable Finance Awards is an annual program organized by Global Finance to honor financial institutions that pioneer the development of sustainable finance solutions and provide capital for projects generating positive environmental and social impacts.

The awards are evaluated based on objective and independent criteria, including governance strategy and policies, practical results in sustainable finance activities, levels of innovation, market impact, and measurable achievements.

Being continuously recognized by Global Finance for four years demonstrates SHB’s persistent efforts in integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into business operations, developing green financial products, expanding capital sources for priority sectors, and accompanying enterprises on their sustainable transformation journey.

The award also reflects the international financial community's recognition of SHB’s long-term strategy, in which sustainable development is defined as the foundation to enhance operational efficiency, create value for customers, shareholders, and the community, while actively contributing to Vietnam’s green growth targets.

According to the bank, holding a position among the top four private joint stock banks in Vietnam with a strategic vision to become a next-generation national-scale bank, SHB closely aligns with the policies of the Party and State as well as national strategies.

On this foundation, the bank continuously refines its governance capacity according to international standards, expands the mobilization and efficient allocation of green capital sources, accompanies enterprises in transforming their growth models, and contributes to materializing Vietnam’s Net Zero commitments.

In 2025, SHB successfully mobilized two ESG-aligned medium-term syndicated loans in US dollars totaling $600 million. Both transactions recorded high interest from the international market, with subscription volumes exceeding initial target offerings, enabling SHB to exercise the greenshoe option to optimize its capital structure and meet the financing demands of green projects. The new capital resources helped SHB expand its financing capacity for enterprises and projects aligned with green growth and sustainable development orientations.

The transaction series attracted a total of 26 international financial institutions, arranged and underwritten by five reputable mandated lead arrangers and bookrunners: Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), CTBC Bank, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Mashreq Bank and State Bank of India (SBI).

This reflects SHB’s appeal and reputation among the international investor and lender community, while highlighting the strong shift of global capital flows into ESG-compliant transactions in Vietnam. Steadfast in its sustainable development strategy, SHB continues to position itself as an effective bridge bringing international green capital into Vietnam, accompanying businesses in green transformation and resource efficiency enhancement, thereby making practical contributions to sustainable development goals in Vietnam and the international community.

Over the years, SHB has successfully cooperated with leading global financial institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the International Finance Corporation to channel capital into green projects and various economic sectors, including renewable energy, small and medium enterprises, and women-led businesses.

From the Happiness Rice Factory in An Giang province to the Yang Trung Wind Power Plant in Gia Lai, SHB’s capital flow is quietly present in numerous projects bearing the imprint of sustainable development.

Alongside these prominent projects, SHB also accompanies numerous wind power, hydroelectricity, and green agricultural and production projects across the country. SHB’s expanding investment portfolio clearly demonstrates the orientation of greening capital flows, channeling financial resources into sectors that create sustainable value in alignment with Vietnam’s green growth targets and Net Zero commitments.

Currently, SHB ranks among the leading private banks in terms of the ratio of green credit to total outstanding loans, affirming the banking system's role in guiding economic transformation toward sustainability.

SHB’s efforts have been recognized by reputable domestic and international organizations, with awards such as “Top 10 Outstanding Comprehensive ESG Performing Enterprises” at the Vietnam ESG Awards; “Vietnam’s Most Positive ESG Impact Bank” from FinanceAsia; “Vietnam’s Best Sustainable Finance Bank” from Global Finance; and ESG Program of the Year - Vietnam” from The Asian Banking and Finance.

SHB targets becoming the number one bank in terms of efficiency, the preferred digital bank, the best retail bank, and a top-tier supplier of capital, financial products, and services for strategic corporate clients with ecosystems, supply chains, value chains, and green development, as well as small and medium enterprises and individual customers by 2030.

Looking toward the 2035 vision, SHB strives to become a modern bank, digital bank, and green bank among the regional leaders.

To realize these goals, SHB continues on implementing a comprehensive transformation strategy based on four pillars: centering on customers and markets, reforming mechanisms, policies, regulations, and processes, considering people as the primary subject, and modernizing information technology and digital transformation, underpinned by six core values of Integrity, Trust, Credibility, Knowledge, Wisdom, and Vision.
