Party General Secretary To Lam has urged northern Hai Phong port city to strive to develop into a city on par with major cities in Asia and a modern maritime economic hub in the future.

During a working session with the municipal Party Committee on November 14, the Party leader also instructed Hai Phong to develop into a modern international port city, leading the country in industrialization and modernization, in order to become an international hub of economics, education, training, science and technology.

He suggests Hai Phong to focus on building both hard and soft infrastructure for digital transformation, innovation, and technology development, creating new drivers for growth.

The city should increase investment in research and development to promote inventions and patents, and create an attractive environment for creativity and startups not only for Vietnam but also for Southeast Asia.

He asked Hai Phong to develop a sound strategy for attracting FDI and promote technology transfer, create favorable conditions for domestic businesses to grow and participate in global supply chains.

Hai Phong posted an average economic growth of 12.6% annually in the 2019-2023 period, 2.44 times higher than the national average. In the first nine months of 2024, it gained a GRDP growth of 9.77%.
