The northern port city of Hai Phong has launched the construction of a bridge, namely Nguyen Trai, across the Cam River, one of the city's key projects for 2024.
According to Mr. Do Tuan Anh, General Director of the Hai Phong Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, the bridge will feature four lanes for motorized vehicles.
Designed as a cable-stayed bridge, its total length is nearly 1,500 m, including a central span of 300 m, making it the widest bridge in Hai Phong. The two 111-meter-high towers are designed to resemble sails reaching toward the sea, symbolizing Hai Phong's aspiration to "reach out to the vast ocean".
The project has a total investment of over VND6.235 trillion (nearly $245 million), funded by both the Central and City budgets and is located in Ngo Quyen and Thuy Nguyen districts.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on December 18, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the city People's Committee, noted that Resolution No 45 of the Politburo on the construction and development of Hai Phong City by 2030, with a vision to 2045, aims to complete the relocation of the city's administrative center to the north of the Cam River by 2025.
The construction of the Nguyen Trai Bridge and the surrounding urban renewal project is crucial in achieving this goal. The project will enhance transport infrastructure, expand urban space, and effectively utilize the valuable land on both banks of the Cam River.
The project is expected to be completed by 2027.
