The total volume of cargo transported via ports in northern Hai Phong city in 2023 reached 170.08 million tons, up 1.19 per cent year-on-year, according to the city’s Statistics Office.

Total revenue hit more than VND6.7 trillion ($279 million), up 1.11 per cent year-on-year.

Hai Phong Port alone handled 37.58 million tons of cargo in 2023, according to the Hai Phong Port JSC.

The company earned total revenue of over VND2.5 trillion ($104 million).

Deputy Director General the Hai Phong Port JSC Trung Hieu said 2023 was a tough year, with many difficulties and changes. In particular, maritime activities were greatly affectedly by economic downturn and fierce competition between ports in the region.

However, Hai Phong Port still basically fulfilled its annual target, he said.

In November, the Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT) in the city welcomed its 1-millionth TEU in 2023, from the container ship YM Truth of the Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation. This was the second consecutive year that TC-HICT handled more than 1 million TEUs.
