The northern port city of Hai Phong plans to build a new 20,000-ha economic zone in its southern reaches, according to Head of the city’s Economic Zone Management Board Le Trung Kien.

The eco-economic zone will offer many superior incentives to attract investors, he told a conference on developing a free trade zone and a non-tariff zone in the city.

The city will also develop a non-tariff zone at Lach Huyen International Port, covering 752 ha.

This zone will focus on producing high-tech equipment for healthcare, new materials, chip semiconductors, renewable energies, services, and the transport of goods by air. It will also serve as a transshipment point for international goods.

The establishment of a free-trade zone is an appropriate step and in line with Vietnam’s economic growth, helping attract foreign investors and putting it among the leading countries in global supply chains.
