Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport has ranked eleventh on a list of global airports with the fastest waiting times, according to a study published by vacation rental company Casago.
One of the primary reasons for airport queues is the continuous growth in air travel, the study said. Over the years, the aviation industry has witnessed a substantial rise in passenger numbers. According to Statista, the number of scheduled passengers boarded by the global airline industry rose from 1.9 billion in 2004 to 4.7 billion in 2020 at the height of travel just before the pandemic. Following two years of lockdown, airlines and airports worldwide struggled to meet the post-pandemic demand in 2022, resulting in a significant influx of travelers and leading to delays and bottlenecks in the form of long queues.
The study results were based on analysis by Casago on passenger reviews from airlinequality.com, where each review gave queueing times a rating between one and five stars.
With 66.33 per cent of reviewers rating it four to five stars, Noi Bai International Airport was the only Vietnamese airport to make the list.
Changi Airport in Singapore was the world’s best airport in this regard, with 74 per cent of participants giving it at least four stars, followed by Siem Reap Airport in Cambodia and Cape Town International Airport in South Africa.
Serving Vietnam’s capital, Noi Bai International Airport is the second-largest and busiest for passenger traffic in Vietnam, after Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. The airport consists of two passenger terminals. Terminal 1 serves domestic flights and Terminal 2, which opened on January 4, 2015, serves all international flights. The airport has a capacity of catering to 25 million passengers a year, and a cargo terminal that can handle 400,000 tons a year.
