Hanoi targets to increase the urbanization rate to 55-65% by 2030 and 70% by 2035 under its urban development program towards 2035.
The city’s current urbanization rate is 49.1%.
The municipal People’s Committee has submitted the program to the city’s People’s Council for consideration.
Under the program, the capital city plans to have additional four urban districts, bringing the total number of such districts to 16, apart from Son Tay town.
As a result, its rural districts will reduce from 17 to 13.
The program also sets some other targets, including an average GRDP growth rate of 8% - 8.5% per year and per capita GRDP of $12,000 - 13,000 in the 2026 - 2030 period.
Total urban construction land area is estimated at 540 sq km.
The ratio of transport land to construction land is expected at 5.74% by 2030.
The overall urban population density is expected at over 3,000 per sq km.
The urban development program in Hanoi will be developed in accordance with appropriate requirements and in line with national planning and general urban planning, orientations and strategies of medium-term public investment plans, according to the Capital Law.
