The total number of vehicles travelling on the four expressways managed by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) continued stable growth in the first half of this year with 33.78 million, up 13.08% against 2023.

The four expressways are Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Noi Bai - Lao Cai, Da Nang - Quang Ngai, and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay.

Of which, the HCM City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway took the lead with 11.68 million vehicles. It was followed by Cau Gie – Ninh Binh expressway with over 11 million vehicles.

As a result, traffic congestion often occurs along the HCM City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay.

The first phase of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay was put into operation since June 30, 2016 with a total length of 55 km. The number of vehicles travelling on the expressway has increased 10.45% annually on average.

At a meeting in May, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said it was necessary to expand the HCM City – Long Thanh section to prevent traffic congestion and meet socio-economic development demand.
