HCM City's first metro line expected to start operation by the end of Q4

Ho Chi Minh City’s first metro line, the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien urban railway line or the Metro Line No. 1, is scheduled to start commercial operation by the end of this year, following the project’s timeline adjustment.

The adjustment has been approved by the municipal People’s Committee.

Previously, the project was expected to start operation in October this year.

The line runs 19.7 km between Ben Thanh Station in District 1 and Suoi Tien Depot in Thu Duc city. It has 14 stations, including eleven elevated and three underground.

It allows a maximum speed of 110 kph on elevated sections and 80 km/h on underground sections.

This is the first metro line among eight projected for the southern city. It has total investment of VND43.7 trillion ($1.76 billion).

Construction began in 2012. 

The project's investor, the Management Authority for Urban Railway (MAUR), reported that 98.58% of work has been completed as of September 20.
