The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade has proposed adding the Can Gio offshore wind power project to the National Power Development Plan for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050.
The project is designed to have a total capacity of 6,000 MW.
Construction is divided into four phases, from 2031 to 2040.
The project’s capacity is to reach 2,000 MW in the first phase from 2031-2035 for electricity generation, a further 1,000 MW in the second phase in 2035 for hydrogen production, 2,000 MW in the third phase in 2036-2040 for electricity generation, and 1,000 MW in the fourth phase for hydrogen production.
Total investment is estimated at over VND313.3 trillion ($13.2 billion).
The project will be implemented by a joint venture between Vietnam’s Asia Petroleum Energy Corporation (Asiapetro) and Japan’s Tokyo Gas Company Limited and Shizen Energy Group.
