Ho Chi Minh City has been named a winner in three categories at the 2026 World Travel Awards (WTA) for Asia, Oceania and the Indian Ocean region, held in the Maldives on September 27.
The city received the titles of Asia’s Leading Business Travel Destination and Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination, while the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism was named Asia’s Leading City Tourist Board 2026.
This marks the fifth consecutive year, from 2022 to 2026, that Ho Chi Minh City has won the title of Asia’s Leading Business Travel Destination. The city has also retained the Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination title since 2022.
The awards come as the city’s tourism sector continues to expand, with international visitors emerging as a key driver of industry revenue.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the city welcomed more than 8.5 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2026, up 34.5% year on year and equivalent to 77.4% of its annual target. Domestic arrivals reached nearly 40 million, down 5.2%.
Total tourism revenue was estimated at VND282.696 trillion ($10.7 billion), an increase of 43.4% year on year and 85.7% of the annual target.
Meanwhile, the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) was named Vietnam’s Leading Conference and Convention Centre 2026.
