Northern Hoa Binh province exported its first batch of 20 tons of fresh sugarcane to the US on March 19, according to provincial authorities.
The shipment was made after six months of negotiations between the Tien Ngan Trade and Investment Company and its US partner.
The company expects to export between 300 and 500 tons of fresh sugarcane this year.
Sugarcane could bring high economic value and has huge potential for exports, according to the Director of the Hoa Binh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Huy Nhuan.
The province exported 300 tons of fresh sugarcane last year, primarily to South Korea, Japan, the UK, and the EU.
