More global markets, especially significant ones like the EU and the US, are increasingly imposing sustainable and green production standards on goods. This necessitates Vietnamese businesses to adopt sustainable practices if they wish to join these markets and lead global supply chains.
ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) serves as a framework for measuring a business's commitment to sustainability. Embracing ESG and sustainable business models has become a necessity. To remain competitive and access opportunities in global value chains, companies must align with these new trends.
Experts emphasize that green growth is no longer a concept of the future—it is happening now. However, this green transition presents increasing challenges for businesses. Companies prioritizing environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and robust corporate governance are better positioned for lasting success.
As a leader among publicly listed companies, Masan Group has been recognized in the "Top 50 Corporate Sustainability Awards 2024" (Nhip Cau Dau Tu). Masan excelled in all three ESG pillars, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, innovative business practices and its aspiration to become a source of national pride.
Masan’s effective and sustainable operations are reflected in its establishment of an ESG Committee, ensuring comprehensive implementation across its strategies.
Promoting sustainable initiatives
In the food sector, Masan has emerged as a leader in clean agricultural production. WinEco, established in 2015, has supplied over 150 types of certified safe produce (Global GAP, VietGAP, and Organic). Each month, it delivers approximately 3,000 tons of fresh produce to 3,700 WinMart/WinMart+/WIN outlets. Spanning over 3,000 hectares across 14 farms nationwide, WinEco employs cutting-edge technologies from Israel and Japan to ensure quality from seeding to packaging.
Moreover, Masan has embraced green packaging solutions, replacing traditional materials with biodegradable products such as kraft paper and eco-friendly plastic.
WinCommerce, a subsidiary of Masan, has implemented green initiatives at WinMart, WinMart+, and WIN stores by introducing 100 per cent biodegradable shopping bags and replacing single-use plastics with eco-friendly materials.
Environmental commitments
Masan has invested heavily in advanced wastewater treatment systems designed by Dutch partners, deployed at its factories in Binh Duong, Hai Duong, and Nghe An. The high-tech pig farming complex under Masan MEATLife in Nghe An is equipped with state-of-the-art wastewater systems.
Masan High-Tech Materials exemplifies a circular economy model by recycling over 30 per cent of waste and reusing 7.8 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to 76.1 per cent of its 2023 consumption.
Community engagement: "One million meals having meat"
This December, CHIN-SU, a Masan brand, partnered with the “Tro ngheo vung cao” fund for the second consecutive year to provide nutritious meals for underprivileged students. With a budget of VND10 billion ($392,000), the program aims to deliver over 1 million meals across 100 schools in nine provinces in northern and central highlands regions.
This initiative is only the beginning of Masan’s long-term commitment to community welfare, aspiring to nurture dreams and brighten futures for millions of children.
"Doing well by doing good" remains the cornerstone of Masan’s 28-year history, as it continues to enhance both the material and spiritual well-being of consumers while striving to be a source of national pride.
