Artificial Intelligence (AI) can support journalists in many tasks involving repetition or significant effort but cannot complete tasks that require innovation or emotion, analysts told a seminar held in Hanoi on March 18 within the framework of the 2023 National Press Festival.
At the forum, entitled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and content creation and management in journalism”, analysts, journalists, and leaders of press agencies discussed current moves in applying AI in content creation in multi-platform journalism while identifying opportunities and challenges facing journalism when AI enters the newsroom.
Discussions also focused on virtual assistance testing in newsroom management and organization and the AI chatbot phenomenon ChatGPT.
Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of the Nhan Dan (People) newspaper and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, noted that digital transformation has become an inexorable trend in most socio-economic fields.
Journalism must take the lead in national digital transformation, by actively innovating operations and bringing new experiences to readers through digital technology solutions, he said.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said real experience and innovation will create unique stories that AI cannot fake.
“We should apply high technology to serve us but not lose our identity,” he said. “Technology is just a tool. Press agencies need to clearly identify their core values.”
