Vietnam ranks 50th globally this year, climbing five places compared to 2025 and marking its highest position since the rankings began, according to the latest Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026 report by StartupBlink.
The report highlights that Vietnam’s startup ecosystem recorded a growth rate of 67.9%, significantly outperforming the global average of 17.5%. Regionally, Vietnam now ranks 5th in Southeast Asia and 10th in Asia.
StartupBlink values the domestic startup ecosystem at $75.1 billion, featuring three unicorns. According to data recorded in the report, the three Ho Chi Minh City-based representatives identified as "unicorns" are MoMo, Sky Mavis, and Tiki. Additionally, major names such as VinFast and TCBS are categorized as "Exit Champions" (businesses that have listed on the stock market or been acquired).
Fintech is identified as the strongest sector of Vietnam's startup ecosystem, ranking 39th globally and 9th in the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam also ranks 2nd in Southeast Asia for ecosystem brand value, while its startup community activity ranks 6th in Asia-Pacific.
Vietnam currently has four cities featured in the Top 1,000 global startup ecosystems, an increase of one city compared to 2025. Hai Phong made its debut on the list alongside HCM City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.
Notably, Hai Phong entered the Top 100 for the first time, ranking 98th globally—up 12 places from the previous year—with an ecosystem growth rate of 25.1%. The city leads Southeast Asia in the "Ecosystem Maturity" category, reflecting the strong performance of its startups and the ability to scale growth-oriented businesses. Fintech remains HCMC's primary strength, ranking 3rd in Southeast Asia and 60th globally. HCMC also ranks 5th regionally and 70th globally in Blockchain.
Meanwhile, Hanoi jumped 30 places to 118th globally and 6th in Southeast Asia, with an ecosystem growth rate of 48.6%. The capital city ranks 4th in the region for "Ecosystem Returns." Da Nang recorded the most significant leap in rankings, climbing 212 places to 554th globally, with a growth rate of 153.8%—the highest among all ranked Vietnamese cities.
In terms of total ecosystem score, HCM City’s score is 1.2 times higher than Hanoi’s, continuing its reign as Vietnam’s primary startup hub.
