An international passenger port on Phu Quoc Island in southern Kien Giang province is scheduled to be put into operation on February 14.
The project had been approved by the Ministry of Transport, following a proposal from the provincial People’s Committee in 2015 with investment capital estimated at over VND1.64 trillion ($64.19 million).
Covering 179.3 ha in Duong Dong town, the port will be capable of receiving ships with a capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 passengers and cargo vessels with a capacity of 15,000 tons.
The project is expected to help boost tourism for Phu Quoc island and create a modern and comprehensive transport network to attract more international tourists.
