The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is striving to complete preparations to begin construction of the North-South express railway line and Ring Road No. 5 in the Hanoi capital region by 2030.
This is part of its action plan to implement Politburo Resolution No. 30 on socio-economic development in the Red River Delta by 2030 with a vision to 2045.
The North-South express railway line, with an estimated cost of nearly $60 billion, will be around 1,545 km in length and run through 20 cities and provinces, including Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.
The line will permit speeds of up to 320 km/h.
Under the action plan, the MoT will focus on developing infrastructure for the region in a modern and comprehensive manner. Priority will be given to the development of road, rail, and inland water transport routes, airports, and seaports in connection with economic corridors to create breakthroughs in sustainable and rapid development for the region.
In order to reach the targets, the ministry will allocate State budget funds and attract and effectively use official development assistance (ODA) and preferential loans from international donors.
Over the past 15 years, the MoT has invested some VND137 trillion ($5.78 billion) in transport infrastructure for the Red River Delta region.
