The Erex Corporation from Japan, which specializes in supplying biomass electricity, has unveiled plans for a pioneering 50 MW biomass plant in the south-central province of Binh Dinh.
The Binh Dinh Department of Planning and Investment confirmed that the Erex Joint Stock Company, headquartered in Japan, plans to research and invest in a biomass power plant in the province with expected investment of VND2.4 trillion ($101 million).
Under the company’s proposal, installed capacity at the Binh Dinh Biomass Power Plant will be 50 MW, with electricity production to reach 296.4 million kWh a year. The project will use chain grate boiler technology from Stoker, with a turbine creating a pure form of steam condensate, not re-heating.
Erex is Japan’s leading electricity manufacturer and supplier, with 30 years of operations in the field of biomass electricity. It currently owns five large biomass power plants with a total capacity of nearly 300 MW. It has built and operated biomass power plants in Vietnam to conduct various business activities.
The project site was confirmed following an actual survey, where priority was given to areas with favorable transport infrastructure. The plant sits on 15-20 ha, but does not intrude upon natural forests or forestry land. It is expected to begin, procure equipment, and complete the installation of machinery and equipment by 2027, with commercial operations to begin by 2030. Total investment stands at $101 million.
According to the Erex Joint Stock Company, it is currently coordinating with the Institute of Energy at the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), which is a consultant on the project, on developing criteria for project construction.
The MoIT is coordinating with the Provincial People’s Committee to review and submit to the government for approval an implementation plan under Vietnam’s National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8). Approval will provide a sufficient legal basis for Erex to officially carry out investment procedures for the Binh Dinh Biomass Power Plant.
