A conference on promoting economic and trade cooperation between Lao Cai province (Vietnam) and Dali Prefecture (Yunnan province, China) was held in Lao Cai province on October 21.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Sinh emphasized that economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Dali Prefecture have been developing strongly, with Vietnam now becoming Dali’s largest foreign trading partner.

In 2024, the total import–export turnover between Vietnam and Dali reached over CNY1 billion ( more than $140 million), accounting for 36 per cent of Dali Prefecture’s total foreign  trade. The main traded products included grapes, citrus fruits, leafy vegetables, fresh durians, and processed agricultural products.

Notably, Lao Cai province has played a key role as a vital trade hub in this cooperation, as many Dali-based enterprises have established warehouses and transit points in the province.

Notably, 2024 marked the first time Dali’s farm produce was shipped by rail from Dali Xiangyun railway station to Lao Cai province, creating a more efficient logistics link between the two localities.

Morover, they have also established specialized cooperation channels, contributing to stronger mutual understanding and more practical coordination between local governments.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Sinh expressed his hope that both sides would continue to deepen cooperation in mutually interested fields, serving as a foundation for concrete and effective action programs.

He affirmed that Lao Cai authorities are committed to closely coordinating with relevant agencies to strengthen their role as a bridge for trade and investment, while facilitating enterprises from Dali and other parts of Yunnan province with favorable procedures, infrastructure, and logistics services for efficient operations in Vietnam.

Within the framework of the conference, enterprises from both sides signed multiple agreements in technology, agriculture, and import–export, aiming to build sustainable value chains, promote digital transformation in production and trade, and elevate the Lao Cai–Dali partnership to new heights.
