The Mekong Delta region welcomed nearly 45 million tourists in 2023, a year-on-year rise of 20.4 per cent, according to the region’s Tourism Association.
International tourists stood at over 1.8 million.
Total revenue was estimated at more than VND45.7 trillion ($1.86 billion).
Though indicators are on the rise, tourism development has failed to meet the region’s potential and advantages, experts told a conference held by the Association on February 23 to review operations in 2023 and discuss orientations for 2024.
They recommended increasing links between localities in the region in regard to tourism development and to introduce new tourism products to attract more visitors
It is also necessary to continue investing in transport infrastructure to meet the travel needs of tourists.
