The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has proposed continuing the pilot application of biometric authentication (facial recognition) at airport check-in desks.
The technology has been piloted at Cat Bi International Airport in northern Hai Phong city but has revealed certain limitations, such as slow speeds in recognizing chip-based ID cards and insufficient human resources, according to the CAAV.
The application of biometric authentication aims to contribute to ensuring social order and security, reduce time at check-in, and increase accuracy.
Facial recognition technology can also improve the prevention and detection of passengers using fake documents, and detect those who are banned from flying or are wanted criminals.
