Many National Assembly (NA) deputies agreed with a government proposal to adjust the investment capital and implementation period for a project on land recovery and site clearance, compensation, and resettlement for the construction of Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province to the end of 2024.
They were discussing an NA resolution regarding the project during a plenary session of the 15th NA’s 6th session in Hanoi on November 9.
The government last month proposed extending the implementation period for the project to the end of 2024.
It also proposed reducing total investment for the project to VND19.21 trillion ($780.64 million) from VND22.94 trillion ($932.22 million), with the land to be recovered reduced to 5,317.35 ha from nearly 5,400 ha.
Long Thanh International Airport has total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($14.6 billion), with construction divided into three phases.
The first phase began on January 5, 2021, with total investment capital of VND109.111 trillion ($4.735 billion) and is expected to be completed by 2025, with the construction of one terminal, one runway, and an air traffic control center. It will have a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year.
The second phase, scheduled to be carried out during the 2025-2035 period, will build an additional terminal and runway, bringing the airport’s capacity to 50 million passengers and 1.5 million tons of cargo per year.
The third phase, scheduled to be implemented during the 2035-2050 period, will build two additional terminals and two runways, bringing total capacity to 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo per year.
