Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision No.560/QD-TTg on June 25 to establish the National Council for Sustainable Development, the Government News has reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long shall be Chairman of the Council and he will be supported by Minister of Planning and Investment as the Vice Chairman.
The council is responsible for assisting the PM in directing and coordinating relevant parties to implement sustainable development in Vietnam.
It is responsible for researching, consulting, recommending and proposing to the PM in developing and organizing the implementation of guidelines, strategies, mechanisms and policies to implement sustainable development as well as global commitments on sustainable development in Vietnam, including the National action plan to realize the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The council will also evaluate the results of sustainable development implementation on a national scale and periodically organize national conferences on sustainable development.
