The Ministry of Transport has asked the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam to quickly complete a feasibility study for submission to the Prime Minister to approve a project upgrading National Highway No. 62 in the Mekong Delta’s Long An province.
It was also instructed to negotiate with the World Bank to sign a loan agreement and organize bidding to start construction by 2025.
The road has been put into use for nearly 24 years and has deteriorated, hindering Long An’s efforts in attracting investors in its border economic zone. It also poses a risk of traffic accidents.
The upgrade to the 77-km highway is estimated to cost VND2.250 trillion ($93 million), with VND1.545 trillion ($64 million) being loans.
It will be expanded with a roadbed width of 11 meters, allowing a speed limit of 80 kph.
