A Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, led by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, left New York on September 25 afternoon (local time) for a State visit to Cuba.

This is Mr. To Lam’s first visit to Cuba in his capacity as the top leader of the Party and State of Vietnam.

It is taking place in the context that the two countries will celebrate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025.

The State visit is made at the invitation of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez and his spouse.

During the State visit to Cuba, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his spouse are accompanied by Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, Politburo member and  Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, Politburo member and Chairman of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member and  Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat and Chief of the Party Central Committee Office Nguyen Duy Ngoc, member  of  the Party Central Committee Secretariat and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s  Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, among other senior officials.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, his spouse, and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived at Jose Marti International Airport in Havana on September 25 evening (local time).

The Vietnamese leader and his entourage were greeted at the airport by Politburo member Roberto Morales Ojeda, permanent member of the Secretariat of the Party Communist of Cuba Central Committee; Politburo member and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba Alvaro Lopez Miera; and Politburo member and Minister of the Interior Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas, among others.

Mr. Lam is scheduled to hold talks and have meetings with Cuba’s key leaders, pay floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero Jose Martí, visit a number of economic establishments, and meet Cuban friends and young people of the two countries.

Cuba was the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1960. Over the past nearly 65 years, the traditional solidarity, mutual support, and comprehensive cooperation have continuously been consolidated and strengthened across spheres.

The relationship between the two Parties has been growing intensively, serving as the political foundation and guiding the development of the Vietnam-Cuba ties. Both sides have maintained bilateral engagements and all-level delegation exchanges.
