The Italian-flagged cruise ship Coasta Serena brought over 2,600 foreign tourists to Phu Quoc Island off the coast of the Mekong Delta’s Kien Giang province on May 21.

This is the first five-star cruise ship to visit the island post-pandemic.

Director of the provincial Department of Tourism Bui Quoc Thai said some tourism businesses have registered to follow suit and Phu Quoc will welcome a number of cruise ships this year.

In order to improve services to welcome international visitors from cruise ships, Kien Giang has also accelerated the completion of tourism infrastructure, especially Phu Quoc Terminal, to accommodate foreign vessels with a capacity of welcoming 6,000 passengers, according to Mr. Thai.

Phu Quoc Island has attracted more than 300 tourism investment projects with total registered capital of around $17 billion.
