Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in Vientiane, Laos, on April 4 to attend the 4th Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit opening on April 5.

With the theme “Innovation and Cooperation for a Water Secure and Sustainable Mekong”, the Summit will focus on discussing orientations and directions related to development and management in the Mekong River basin, and agreements and plans to achieve the outcomes of the Mekong River Basin Development Strategy in 2021-2030.

The Vientiane summit will be a good occasion for member countries and partners to discuss and work towards their cooperation targets in the use, development, and protection of water resources and related issues in a sustainable manner for the sake of the member countries and welfare for basin residents.

Participants will also analyze and assess challenges and opportunities related to water resources, including sustainable development and environmental management in the basin, and devise orientations for basin development and management.
