Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked relevant ministries, agencies and localities to strive to complete the construction of 1,200 km of expressways for the Mekong Delta region as planned during a field trip to the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway project on July 13, the Government News has reported.

The Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway has a total length of over 188km, with sub-projects in An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces.

Its total investment is estimated at VND44.69 trillion ($1.75 billion).

Its construction began in June 2023, and is expected to be put into operation by 2030.

PM Chinh stressed that the transport system together with other comprehensive measures would help to boost the development of the region.

He suggested major contractors to team up with their local peers to mobilize on-site personnel, equipment, materials and logistics, and stressed the need to prevent corruption and other negative phenomena during the construction.
