Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has instructed relevant ministries, agencies and sectors to take measures to improve labor productivity which is considered as a rapid and sustainable growth driver.
Addressing the national forum on labor productivity held by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) on May 26, PM Chinh noted that focus should be made on boosting the completion of legal framework; capitalizing on resources for development, particularly public-private cooperation and attraction of foreign investment; and accelerating breakthroughs in high-quality human resources development so as to create a foundation for raising labor productivity.
He also required the ministries, agencies and sectors to pioneer in digital transformation, green transition, development of circular economy, sharing economy and intellectual economy; international integration to take advantage of all opportunities and competitive edge; and emulation movements to better labor productivity.
The Government leader urged for breakthroughs in science-technology and innovation, especially in emerging areas, and working environment, ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of workers.
Regarding tasks to improve labor productivity in the coming time, PM Chinh requested to give priority to promote growth which is a foundation to improve labor productivity.
He ordered the VGLC to work closely with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to study and propose programs to support and develop vocational skills for workers.
The VGLC was instructed to hold regular dialogues with enterprises, investors and workers to pen rational solutions to arising issues, and step up communications work to raise laborers’ awareness of the importance of enhancing their profession and skills.
The growth rate of Vietnam’s labor productivity during the 2021-2023 period was lower than the set target of 5.5%.
