Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the Airports Corporation of Vietnam and southern Dong Nai province to accelerate the construction of Long Thanh International Airport so that it may be put it into operation in early June 2026, six months earlier than scheduled.

He made the request while visiting the airport’s construction site in Dong Nai on February 13.

The Ministry of Transport has reported that 98.7 per cent of the land needed for the project has been reclaimed and 100 per cent of land for the first phase of the project has been handed over to the investor.

Long Thanh International Airport will have total investment of an estimated VND336.63 trillion ($13.74 billion), with construction divided into three phases.

The first phase has total investment of nearly VND110 trillion ($4.48 billion), with construction of a passenger terminal and runway getting underway last August.

The terminal will be able to cater to 25 million passengers and handle 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.

Prime Minister Chinh also directed relevant ministries and agencies to conduct frequent inspections to ensure quality, technical and aesthetic aspects, environmental hygiene, and workplace safety at the project while preventing any negative acts or waste.
